What’s new? Ethereum-compatible cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask will start supporting BTC and other cryptocurrencies. The bitcoin wallet feature can be connected using the BitcoinSnap system. MetaMask has unveiled a demo of the new feature, with the project still in the development stage.
What is Snaps? It is a system that extends MetaMask’s capabilities. The feature allows adding new APIs and different blockchain protocols to the wallet. Snaps interacts with the application using JSON-RPC and is so far only available in MetaMask Flask, a separate extension for developers.
What had happened before? In March 2022, ConsenSys CEO Joe Lubin announced that MetaMask will issue its own token and launch a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization). Lubin added that the wallet emphasizes security and user-friendliness. MetaMask also added support for ApplePay for iOS users.
