What else is known about the scammers? According to the police, the damage from the hidden mining was done to the Mediamarkt electronics stores as well as the retail outlets of the El Corte Ingles department store chain. In total, the couple deployed 16 cryptocurrency mining devices.
While the woman distracted the store's employees by asking for help with the laptop malfunctions, her accomplice installed miners and remote access software on the laptops placed in the storefront. After the store staff noticed the high load of certain devices and called the police, the criminals were identified on CCTV cameras and detained.
