What’s new? According to a preliminary review of the “2022 Crypto Crime Report” by the analytics company Chainalysis, scammers and cybercriminals stole about $7,7 billion in cryptocurrency. This is 81% more than last year.
What are the details of the report? According to the company, a new type of fraud is gaining popularity this year. The developers of a cryptocurrency project, usually a new token, unexpectedly close it, taking users’ funds. This method has brought criminals 37% of the aforementioned amount for the year. However, the number of deposits to scammer addresses dropped from 10,7 million to 4,1 million. This indicates a decrease in the number of individual fraud victims.
