Anonymous number was sold for a record $728 000 at the Telegram auction

What’s new? On December 20, the most expensive anonymous number was sold on the Fragment marketplace of the Telegram messenger. An unknown buyer paid a record 300 000 TON (~$728 520 at the time of the transaction) for the number +888 8 888. The second and third place rankings are numbers bought for 52 500 and 50 000 tokens, respectively.

What else is known? The fragment marketplace was launched in October and initially offered only the ability to buy usernames on Telegram. On November 9, the @doge login was bought for more than $550 000.

A new feature to sell anonymous numbers added on December 14, allows one to start a Telegram account without using a SIM card. Their sale, as in the case of usernames for the messenger, is in the format of an auction. In addition to the numbers already offered, it is possible to buy automatically generated numbers without participating in the auction. It will cost 18 TON (about $45,5).

What is known about TON? It is the token of TON (The Open Network), a decentralized computer network. The concept was developed by the Durov brothers in 2017, and they raised several billion dollars in the project. On June 28, the last TON was mined before the blockchain transitioned to PoS, causing the number of new coins going into circulation to drop by about 75%.

Crypto exchange ByBit added TON to its list of supported assets on December 21. Deposits have been available since 08:00 UTC, and TON was listed at 10:00 UTC. To celebrate the event, the exchange prepared special events with a prize pool of 70 688 TON (about $178 400). As of 10:20 UTC, the asset is trading at $2,5249434, having gained 7% in 24 hours, according to Binance.
