What’s new? Forbes magazine surveyed 65 of the world’s richest people and found that almost 30% of billionaires directly or indirectly invest in cryptocurrencies. This figure is higher than among people with less wealth. Thus, according to NBC News in March, only 20% of Americans invested in the field of digital assets.

What other data does the report contain? Some 18% of billionaires reported that they had invested at least 1% of their wealth in cryptocurrencies. Of this group, most invested in digital assets as an experiment. 80% of respondents said that they had invested less than 10% in cryptocurrencies, while 3,2% of respondents said that they had invested more than half of their capital. Sam Bankman-Fried, the head of the FTX exchange, reported that he holds between 76% and 100% of his $20,6 billion fortune in cryptocurrencies.
In this, some billionaires remain skeptical about cryptocurrencies. The head of the logistics company Crown Worldwide, Jim Thompson, said that cryptocurrency is too volatile and a sensible investor would look for something more stable. And US developer John Sobrato revealed that he invested in a new Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) fund set up to support crypto startups, which raised a total of $4,5 billion.
Analytics firm Accenture previously reported that 52% of large Asian investors held cryptocurrencies in their portfolios in the first quarter of 2022. Analysts predict an increase in their number to 73% by the end of the year. More than 3 200 investors with $100 000 to $1 million in capital from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand took part in the survey.
