Adobe, Microsoft, and Intel to develop a blockchain-based photo and video authentication verifying system

What’s new? The global consortium of IT companies called the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) has announced plans to develop a unified standard for the photo and video materials’ authentication verification. Blockchain technology will be used for verification, Nikkei Asian Review reports.

What else is known about the new standard? The initiative is designed to prevent the spread of fake materials on the Internet. The first elements of the standard will appear later this year, and within two years several ecosystems can be in place to control the authenticity of materials at all stages of the life cycle, from shooting to posting on social media. This will also combat the videos that are generated by neural networks. In most cases, it is not possible to verify their authenticity without technical means, which leads to the various fraudulent schemes’ appearance.

What had happened before? On January 23, 2022, the hackers attacked several popular accounts of cryptocurrency YouTube bloggers. The scammers posted unauthorized videos on theirs profiles with text that asks viewers to send money to the hackers’ wallets.
