What’s new? An armed robbery aimed at stealing ASIC miners took place in Tamishi village, Ochamchira District, Abkhazia. According to the law enforcers, two men broke into the house of a resident of the village, a firefight ensued in which one of the robbers and the victim’s brother were killed. The Prosecutor’s Office of Abkhazia filed opened cases under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Abkhazia: murder (Part 2 of Article 99), unlawful possession of firearms (Part 1 of Article 217), and robbery with illegal entry into a home for the purpose of theft (Part 3 of Article 159).

Regulation of mining in Abkhazia. On April 1, the Cabinet of Ministers of Abkhazia announced an extension of the ban on mining cryptocurrencies until December 31, 2022. Abkhazia banned the use and import of equipment designed to mine cryptocurrencies. The decision was made back in December 2020 due to power plant accidents and power shortages.
Also in October 2021, Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania reported the construction of a technopark for mining digital assets. He specified that a newly built substation in the village of Gyachripsh will be used to power the project.
