What’s new? On December 16, cryptocurrency exchange Gemini announced planned maintenance from 03:00 to 05:00 UTC. It has been reported that all user interfaces and trading will be unavailable during this time. However, since then the exchange has repeatedly delayed the resumption of operation. The last launch time listed on the website was 09:30 UTC. As of 09:35 UTC, Gemini has resumed operations.
What is known about Gemini? It is a centralized crypto exchange and trust company regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). The platform was founded in 2014 by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. The exchange hosts 105 cryptocurrencies and 133 trading pairs, with a daily trading volume of $22,2 million, according to CoinGecko.
On December 14, Gemini reported a user data leak due to an incident at a third-party vendor, without disclosing its extent. According to Cointelegraph, hackers gained access to 5 701 649 lines of information related to email addresses and partial phone numbers.
In late October, THORChain, a multi-chain liquidity protocol, shut down for 20 hours due to a software error, with validators unable to reach a consensus due to a breakdown in communication between nodes that prevented new transactions from being verified on the network.
