What’s new? According to the India Today portal, Indian police have managed to get a confession from a criminal previously arrested for drug trafficking. According to law enforcers, Srikrishna Ramesh is linked to at least three known attacks on cryptocurrency platforms.
What crimes did the hacker confess to? In 2015, Srikrishna Ramesh carried out an attack on the major Bitfinex exchange, which resulted in the theft of over 20 000 bitcoins.
“Bitfinex was my first big bitcoin exchange hack. The exchange was hacked twice, and I was the first person to do so. The second instance was a simple spear-phishing attack that led to two Israeli hackers working for the army getting access to the computers of one of the employees.”
Among other high-profile crimes that Ramesh confessed to is an attack on the BitClub Network mining pool and the BTC-e exchange. The first one earned the hacker 100 bitcoins and the second one about $3 million.
