What’s new? Rock band Metallica has published a warning on its official Twitter about scam contests and crypto giveaways allegedly conducted on its behalf. “Unfortunately, the ugly side of social media made an appearance,” the musicians stressed. The band called for information to be verified and to report any scam discovered.

What else is known? News about various contests on behalf of the band began to come to the musicians after the official announcement of their new song, album, and tour. The scammers used YouTube to make live streams that led to websites with crypto giveaways.

As Metallica bluntly stated, “These are scams. They’re being streamed on fake YouTube channels posing to be ours and all pointing to websites that we do not run.” Representatives of the band urged caution and to check the validity of the information.

In September, crypto scammers launched their own YouTube live stream during the online presentation of Apple’s new tech. It aired a recording of the company’s old presentation, with the attackers attaching BTC and ETH logos to it. Under the video, there was a link that masqueraded as an official Apple website, but in fact led to a suspicious, probably phishing, page.

In May, music company Universal Music Group signed an agreement with the LimeWire NFT marketplace, which allowed UMG label artists to issue their own non-fungible tokens. On August 26, British rock band Muse released its ninth studio album, “Will of the People,” as NFT. The release took place on the Serenade platform, created on the Polygon sidechain.
