What did NASA say? The organization deemed the creation of tokens bearing the NASA logo illegal, stating that it is "unlawful to falsely claim copyright or other rights in NASA material.” NASA explained that the authority does not approve applications for the NFT sale because they do not fit the categories of products that it has the right to sell.
“NFTs are, in essence, digital tokens owned by someone as a one of a kind digital asset. NASA does not wish for its images to be used for these purposes.”
Notably, the images and video content from the US government agencies, which includes NASA, are generally not copyrighted. They are free to be used for educational and informational purposes in the media.
