What’s new? A single ETH miner managed to mine an entire block, operating through the 2miners pool. The reward was 168 ETH, approximately $540 000. This amount is almost 42 times the average value.
What other similar cases were there? The mining of a full block by solo miners happens for the third time in a fortnight. On January 11, an anonymous bitcoin solo miner earned 6,25 BTC. Two days later, another miner also mined an entire block of bitcoin. Each of them had a 1 in 1 400 000 chance of mining an entire block.
What is the situation in mining now? The daily Ethereum mining profitability has been declining since it peaked at $0,282 last year. It is now around $0,0474. This is partly due to EIP-1559, transaction fees are now burned rather than distributed to miners.
