What’s new? An unknown user paid a fee of 83,65 BTC worth $3,1 million to transfer 55,77 coins worth $2,1 million. As a result of the transaction, the wallet balance was completely depleted. The fee was a record for the first cryptocurrency’s network in dollar terms, according to current BitInfoCharts data, it exceeded the average fee by 294 957 times.
What else is known? The whale’s address was created on November 23, and it had three more transactions before the $5,2 million transaction took place. The recipient’s wallet was created on October 16.
The record transaction was conducted by the AntPool mining pool at a block height of 818 087. This fee is more than 6 times higher than the previous record fee paid two months earlier.
Thus, on September 10, the fintech company Paxos, which acts as an issuer of stablecoins under the Binance and PayPal brands, paid $510 750 as a fee for transferring bitcoins worth less than $2000. The mining pool F2Pool, which mined the block with this transaction, agreed to refund the company.
It is not yet known whether AntPool will take a similar step.
