What’s new? At the Mobile World Congress, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced the club’s intentions to create its own metaverse. From his speech, the launch of the club’s digital currency and NFTs came to light. Entering the cryptocurrency market will help Barcelona in the fight against clubs owned by big corporations and investors.
What preceded it? In November, the club terminated its contract with Ownix, a digital auction house, which became a partner of the club in the same month.
“We’re developing our own metaverse, which is why we rejected the chance to be associated with any cryptocurrency enterprises. We want to create our own cryptocurrency and we have to do that ourselves. We are different because we do not have big corporations or shareholders behind us. That forces us to be imaginative, innovative, brave, and be a step ahead in many areas that surround the sports industry,” stated Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona.
