Hacked Mt.Gox exchange to pay users compensation worth $6 billion

What’s new? The Mt.Gox exchange will pay compensation of up to $6 billion to the hacked customers. The platform’s former CEO Mark Karpeles stated this in an interview with Forkast.

What statements did Karpeles make? According to the ex-director, the exchange’s trustee will distribute up to $6 billion worth of bitcoins left on the platform to the affected customers. Karpeles did not name a timeframe in which the distribution of compensation will take place.
Another statement was related to Karpeles’s plans to open a rating agency, UNGOX, which will evaluate cryptocurrency exchanges. In addition, the former Mt.Gox director’s plans also include issuing his own NFTs, which will give exchange customers a lifetime of free access to the UNGOX website and services.
Mt.Gox is one of the first and largest cryptocurrency exchanges, with up to 70% of bitcoin transactions passing through in 2013. In February 2014, the exchange was hacked. The users lost 744 000 bitcoins ($35,34 billion at the exchange rate on March 29, 2022) in the hack.
