What’s new? Intel has announced a new mining chip. According to the company, the new development will be “1000x faster than other GPUs” but also less power-consuming, CNBC reports. The chip will go on sale by the end of 2022, with The Block and GRIID Infrastructures having already pre-ordered the new technology.
What is known about the new development? Intel has dubbed its new product a “blockchain accelerator,” it will support the SHA-256 algorithm. Raja Koduri, Senior Vice President of Intel, stated:
“We are mindful that some blockchains require an enormous amount of computing power, which unfortunately translates to an immense amount of energy. Our customers are asking for scalable and sustainable solutions, which is why we are focusing our efforts on realizing the full potential of blockchain by developing the most energy-efficient computing technologies at scale.”
