What’s new? Journalists from The Block, citing a TON representative, have reported that the blockchain team is not involved in the development of a TON-based Layer 2 (L2) network, as previously reported. So, on July 9, CoinDesk magazine wrote that TON developers are creating an L2 network called TON Applications Chain (TAC), which is designed to connect decentralized applications (DApps) based on Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible networks to the TON ecosystem.

What else is known? Later it became known that TAC is being developed by a separate team led by Pavel Altukhov and supported by The Open Platform, an investment company focused on projects in the TON ecosystem. The project was presented at the Brussels-based Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC).

TAC is being developed using the Chain Development Kit (CDK) from the Polygon blockchain team, applying zero-knowledge proof (ZK) technology.

Compatibility with EVM will allow Ethereum developers to transfer their applications to the TON ecosystem and create new programs for messenger Telegram, with which TON is tightly integrated. The new network will enable the creation of decentralized financing platforms, games, and decentralized identity solutions.
