What’s new? In Peru, the mayor of La Molina, Álvaro Paz de la Barra, has launched a training program to promote the use of bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. The MoliCoin project aims to attract restaurants and shops to integrate digital payments. About 10 enterprises have already joined this initiative.
More details about MoliCoin. With a new government program, residents of La Molina can now pay their taxes using bitcoins. The guide recommends that citizens use the Lightning Network (LN) wallets to reduce commission costs and increase transaction speeds. Paz de la Barra believes that such an approach can reduce the number of tax evaders.
What had happened before? The Peruvian government prepared a bill to regulate cryptocurrencies. The authorities plan to implement the document in 2022. The first state to recognize bitcoin as a means of payment was El Salvador. From 2021, citizens of this country can make purchases and pay taxes using cryptocurrency.
