What’s new? The developers of the Polygon sidechain have announced that the network is suspended due to a possible bug in the consensus algorithm that occurred after a technical upgrade. Polygon is not releasing blocks for more than 11 hours and users can not make transactions. The project team assures that all assets and data are safe.

What is known about the network outage? The outage was initially planned, but after the sixth hour of technical work, the developers announced some problems:

“We suspect there may have been a bug in the upgrade which affected consensus and caused different Heimdall validators to be on different versions of the chain, thereby not reaching 2/3 consensus.”

Polygon’s work resumption is a top priority and the team is currently working on “identifying the definitive causes and preparing mitigation solutions.”

What is Polygon? This is a network of sidechains and Layer 2 (L2) secure solutions powered by Ethereum. Polygon operates on a Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. Tether USD (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), Quickswap (QUICK) tokens were issued based on the network. We covered Polygon in detail in our article.
