What’s new? Boris Glazkov, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at Rostelecom, a digital services provider, believes that Russian regulators should give preferences to local companies to create a metaverse in the country. According to TASS, Glazkov made this statement during the round table of the Federation Council on the topic “Legal aspects of regulating metaverses.” The company’s representative noted that now in Russia, there is no single metaverse, and excessive regulation will not allow it to appear.
What else did Glazkov add? The representative of Rostelecom believes that Russia should have an alternative and competitive metaverse. In this, the state should support such initiatives with benefits, grants, and subsidies for local development companies, Glazkov notes.
“Still, it seems to me that it is more important to offer our own alternative reality than just focus on regulating other people’s realities,” he explained.
Earlier, the Center for Strategic Research (CSR) of the Russian Federation proposed to implement a separate regulation of NFTs. The CSR noted that the existing legal definitions of NFT do not correctly describe the essence of the asset and limit its options. For full compliance, it is necessary to change the article on digital rights in the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. The Center will propose its own set of rules for this area.
