Please note that Ethereum’s co-founder has not yet commented or confirmed the information about the distribution of VOTEFORK tokens. The distribution of tokens could have been organized by attackers. When interacting with the site, browser-based cryptocurrency wallets are activated. We strongly recommend that do not allow the site to access the wallets or confirm any transactions involving VOTEFORK tokens.

What’s new? On September 5, a website appeared on the network distributing VOTEFORK tokens, supposedly needed to vote on the Ethereum 2.0 upgrade. The site’s domain was registered on September 3. The transfer of VOTEFORK tokens was recorded from the wallet of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, but he himself has not yet commented or confirmed this information in any way.

Update, September 5, 09:20 UTC.

Blockchain explorer Etherscan has flagged the VOTEFORK token as potentially dangerous because the creator of the asset misrepresents its origin information. The platform’s developers warned that the asset could be used for spam or phishing.

What is known about the Ethereum upgrade? Due to the algorithm change from Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS), the way coins are earned on the network will change from mining to staking. The upgrade may also result in a split into two networks, one of which will continue to run on PoW. In August, the developers published a document refuting misconceptions related to the upcoming upgrade.

The developers also updated the roadmap for the upgrade. According to the document, the transition could take place as early as September 10. It will be done in two stages: the first upgrade, called Bellatrix, will be released on September 6 at 11:34:47 UTC, in case of its successful integration, the second upgrade, Paris, will be launched.
