What’s new? Wednesday, January 12, marks the 13th anniversary of the first bitcoin transaction. It was made on the same day, but in 2009, by the creator of the first cryptocurrency under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. He sent 10 BTC to the cryptographer Hal Finney. Bitcoin Magazine columnist Pete Rizzo recalled this on his Twitter.

What is known about the first transaction? The operation was confirmed in block #170 and had an important distinction of zero fees. The transaction was made a week after Nakamoto launched the bitcoin network.
“700 billion transactions since, none as historic,” the journalist stressed.
BTC now trades around the $43 900 level, with the cryptocurrency's capitalization exceeding $830 billion. You can read about how the digital currency market was formed and what opportunities blockchain-based projects offer today in our review article.
