What’s new? On Wednesday, November 17, employees of the St. Petersburg Federal Security Service (FSB) conducted searches at the Senator business center. The office of an unnamed cryptocurrency exchange is located there, the Fontanka newspaper reports, citing eyewitnesses.

How did the events develop? Law enforcers came to the office with searches in the framework of criminal proceedings on the fact of cashing out virtual currency in the amount of 1,5 billion Russian rubles. According to Fontanka, they were referring to Article 171 of the Criminal Code of Russia, “Illegal Entrepreneurship.”

FSB officers have not yet commented on the media reports.

What had happened before? In October, the FSB published a draft order to expand the powers of the department's employees. They will allow them, among other things, to send requests to information system operators to issue virtual assets.
