What’s new? The representatives of the Badger DAO DeFi protocol said on Twitter that the platform has been hit by hacking attacks. The attackers stole a total of $120 million worth of cryptocurrency from the users' wallets.
Badger has received reports of unauthorized withdrawals of user funds. As Badger engineers investigate this, all smart contracts have been paused to prevent further withdrawals. Our investigation is ongoing and we will release further information as soon as possible.— ₿adgerDAO 🦡 (@BadgerDAO) December 2, 2021
How did the hackers gain access to the wallets? The Badger team members reported that the problem stemmed from a malicious script that the hackers inserted into the website's user interface. The script intercepted the users’ transactions and redirected them to the attackers' addresses. The malicious code appeared as early as November 10, with hackers periodically disabling it to avoid detection.
What are the implications for the Badger? PeckShield, a data analytics and blockchain security company, estimated that the total amount of the tokens stolen was around 2100 BTC and 151 ETH.
