What’s new? US Congressman from Texas Pete Sessions has stated that cryptocurrency mining will play a crucial role in restoring America’s energy independence. He was supported by a bitcoin supporter, Senator from Wyoming Cynthia Lummis.
What is the attitude to mining in the USA? The official did not specify exactly how the mining of the first cryptocurrency can contribute to his stated goal. But his view was echoed by other representatives of the authorities. Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz have stated that thanks to the mining, new jobs are being created and additional taxes are being paid to the budget.
Nic Carter, the general partner at the Castle Island Ventures, a venture fund, explained the impact of mining on the energy independence of the United States in an article for the presentation of Mining Week. According to him, the bitcoin network consumes about 15 GW and in the next few years, the miners will add another 20-30 GW. Carter believes that this is not only a promising investment in generation but also an opportunity to increase the economic sustainability of renewable energy sources.
What had happened before? On March 9, the White House released a government-wide strategy for regulating the sphere of cryptocurrencies. The document outlines an approach to address the risks and potential benefits of digital assets and their underlying technologies.
