What’s new? On January 14, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced a series of raids on 25 addresses linked to the 14 REvil members in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Lipetsk. The law enforcers conducted an operation to detain the criminals, as reported on the agency's website.

How did events develop? According to the FSB, the agency conducted the investigation after the US authorities identified the head of REvil. The Russian cyber gang ecosystem, especially those specializing in ransomware, has become a central issue in US-Russian relations over the past year. In October, US President Joe Biden convened a group of countries to discuss the ransomware issue, with Russia left out of the discussion.
What are the results of the raid? The FSB stated that the raids seized 426 million Russian rubles (RUB) ($5,5 million) in cash and cryptocurrency, as well as $600 000 and 500 000 EUR. They also seized the computer equipment, the cryptocurrency wallets used to commit crimes, and 20 luxury cars that had been purchased with illegally obtained funds.
