What’s new? WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s supporters have founded a decentralized organization to facilitate his release from a British prison. The fundraising started on February 4, and by February 8 the total amount was more than 14 100 ETH (approximately $45 million).
What are the goals of the organization? AssangeDAO was created in mid-December last year. Its members describe themselves as “a group of cypherpunks rallying of a fellow cypherpunk in distress.” The collected funds are to be used to purchase a collaborative NFT collection Censored by Julian Assange and the artist Pak.
The DAO’s ultimate aim is to promote civil rights and freedoms, as well as facilitate Assange’s release from a British prison.
“We will raise funds to help with his legal fees and campaigns to increase public awareness on the systemic failure of our justice systems,” the organization’s website says.
