What’s new? Anonymous blockchain analyst ZachXBT, known for his investigations into hacks and fraud in the crypto space, revealed in a conversation with subscribers at X that he has repeatedly helped US authorities recover stolen digital assets, but received no payment for doing so. “Wasted my time on bs like this which never rewarded me at all and only warped my view of doing good,” the anonymous person noted.

What else is known? ZachXBT recalled that in February 2024, he co-lead an initiative that led to the seizure of $12 million related to an attack on casino operator Caesars. Then in September 2023, hackers broke into the company’s internal systems and received a $15 million ransom to restore access.

The analyst also recalled that in October 2024, $20 million worth of confiscated cryptocurrencies were stolen from US government accounts, and he helped recover a significant portion of those funds.

“Was rewarded zero for that. I just have many examples like this,” ZachXBT emphasized.

While speaking to subscribers, he said that he wouldn’t mind getting an official job, but he also noted that FBI and CIA officials have “zero discretion”.

“One of my biggest regrets here is not prioritizing making money,” the anonymous man concluded.

Notably, in April 2024, ZachXBT spoke out about the US IRS’s persistent attempts to involve him in criminal investigations. At that time, he complained about the actions of officials, as they looked like harassment rather than an invitation to cooperate.

For example, agents repeatedly visited his old residential addresses and wrote to his private email account with his real name hidden from the public when there were publicly available methods of communication.

At the time, ZachXBT said he was willing to cooperate with law enforcement, but not when his personal boundaries were overstepped.
