What’s new? The founder and CEO of the Binance exchange Changpeng Zhao claims that Russia will legalize cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. He stated that this will come as a surprise to everyone. Zhao announced this on his Twitter.
What preceded it? Earlier, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation proposed to legislatively define a professional buyer of cryptocurrencies. According to the draft law “On Digital Currency,” which the department submitted to the government, a qualified acquirer of digital assets is proposed to be considered an individual who is recognized as such by a cryptocurrency exchange operator or trading platform. The Government of the Russian Federation opposes the recognition of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said. In his view, it is necessary to “work seriously” on the regulation of digital assets.
Changpeng Zhao previously became the richest person in the crypto industry according to Forbes magazine. His fortune was estimated at $65 billion.
