Bitso expands its operations in Colombia

What’s new? Bitso, a Mexican crypto exchange, is entering the Colombian market amid growing interest in digital assets in the country. Bitso has appointed Emilio Pardo as its new regional manager to start operations in Colombia in partnership with Banco de Bogota. As an experiment, the exchange has decided to take on 5 000 customers who will not be charged the normal fee for buying cryptocurrencies. These users will be able to buy BTC, ETH, BCH, LTC directly with Colombian pesos.

What does the regional manager say? According to Emilio Pardo, Colombia had seen an increase in awareness and adoption of cryptocurrencies during the last year. This is one of the factors that has influenced Bitso to focus on expanding its operations in the country. Pardo added:
“We are witnessing one of the most important moments in the adoption of cryptocurrencies in Colombia and the region of Latin America as a whole. This will not only benefit Colombia’s financial ecosystem, but it will also help educate and address the needs of our customers and fellow citizens.”
What had happened before? . On February 2, the country’s tax authority announced the adoption of special measures to identify taxpayers who incorrectly report cryptocurrency transactions.
