What's new? The famous Norwegian chess player Magnus Carlsen won the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour international tournament. The championship started in November 2020 and ended in October 2021. The main prize for the victory was a non-interchangeable token (NFT).

What did the prize look like? As a reward, the championship winner Magnus Carlsen received two copies of the NFT called Champion’s Trophy, released on the Ethereum blockchain. At the same time, one copy was immediately bought by the chess player’s fan using the digital marketplace of the championship. The deal was about $25 000.
What did the winner say? Magnus Carlsen said that he was glad to receive the prize, as well as the fact that one copy of NFT went to his fan.
“It feels great to share the trophy with such passionate fans. It will be interesting to play with him and meet him in the Champions Chess Tour Finals next season.” Carlsen stated.
