What’s new? Citilink, a Russia-based chain of computer hardware stores, has begun the first official sales of equipment for mining cryptocurrencies in the Russian Federation. The range includes ASIC miners from Bitmain, in particular models such as Antminer S19, S19J Pro, and S19 Pro. Prices for the devices start at 518 160 Russian rubles (RUB).
What happened before? Forbes reported that prices on popular GPU models in Russia dropped almost 5 times in seven months, from 500 000 to 100 000 RUB, and they can be bought even cheaper on the Avito marketplace. One of the main reasons for the price drop was the transition of the Ethereum network to the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm, as a result of which the possibility of mining ETH was abolished.
According to Intelion Data Systems, revenues from bitcoin mining in Russia grew 18-fold from 2017 to 2021, from 7 to 128 billion RUB. However, the figure decreased to 57 billion RUB in 2022.
Earlier, Chinese cryptocurrency mining equipment manufacturer Canaan introduced a new line of A13 miners. It includes two models: the A1346 with a hashrate of 110 TH/s and power efficiency of 30 J/TH and the A1366 device with 130TH/s and 25 J/TH.
