What’s new? Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has announced that it will release a trilogy of films inspired by the NFT collection of Bored Ape Yacht Club called The Degen Trilogy. The owners of BAYC tokens will be able to cast for the roles by offering their virtual monkeys as characters.

What is known about the new project? Users whose tokens will be selected in the casting process will receive fees of $10 000 in the form of bitcoins or ApeCoin. The first episode of the film is scheduled to be shown as early as 2022 at the NFT.NYC conference, which will take place from June 20 to 23.

The film will be set in the 2020s in an apocalyptic Midtown Manhattan, according to the prologue, “for the first time, digital goods and services have outpaced all other indicators as a measure of value in the market.”

Coinbase says it does not expect to make a profit from these films. The project aims to reward and unite the Web3 communities. Earlier, Universal Music acquired one of the BAYC tokens to create a character of the virtual music group Kingship. The producer of the project was inspired by another virtual band, Gorillaz.

What is BAYC? It is one of the most popular collections of non-fungible tokens created on the Ethereum blockchain using the ERC-721 standard. It includes 10 000 NFTs depicting monkeys. The creator of the collection is the company Yuga Labs.
