What’s new? The team at analytics blockchain platform Dune warned users that it has no plans to launch a native token or conduct airdrop. On April 29, the platform’s social media account was hacked, with attackers posting an ad for a free cryptocurrency giveaway on its behalf.

What else is known? Dune developers lost access to the X-account for about 90 minutes, and a fake airdrop post was available to readers for 15 minutes. The scammers offered to click on a malicious link and attach a wallet to receive coins, which threatened to lose all assets. Currently, the team has regained control of the account.

The company has faced a similar problem in the past. In March 2023, attackers created fake accounts for the platform and published posts calling for participation in the DUNE token airdrop. The original account was not hacked.

Such attack methods are widespread in the crypto space. Not only exchanges, auditors, and senior executives of crypto companies, but also government officials are facing hacks of X-accounts. In 2021, hackers on behalf of the Prime Minister of India announced the legalization of bitcoin. In 2023, hackers on behalf of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) published a fake about the approval of spot crypto funds, which caused sharp market fluctuations.

Scammers also actively use the opportunity to create fake accounts with “gold check marks”. Thus, on the eve of the Wormhole cross-chain protocol token airdrop, hundreds of fake accounts were created for the project, which placed malicious links to connect the wallet. The crypto community urged the X management to solve the problem of fake accounts with “check marks” as early as last year.
