What’s new? On February 22, the developers of the Edge Wallet crypto wallet confirmed information about the leak of 2000 private keys and urged users to take a number of protection measures immediately. According to Edge Wallet, a hacker took advantage of a vulnerability associated with the option to copy keys in unencrypted form while performing a number of actions. This allowed him to access private keys and steal bitcoins from some of the addresses.

What is known about the incident? The company believes that the problem affected only 0,01% of the total number of wallet users who performed two types of actions. The first was selling or buying BTC via bank transfer on Bity, Wyre, Bitrefill, Ionia, Xanpool, LibertyX, Bitaccess, Bits of Gold, and Banxa platforms. The second is the use of the “Upload Logs” feature.

The developers urged users to immediately update the application to version v3.3.1, delete previous logs from the disk and, if possible, create a new wallet.

Earlier hackers created a fake ETHDenver conference website with the option to link MetaMask wallets. They managed to steal about $300 000. In January, MetaMask developers warned of a new type of scam involving spoofing transaction addresses during autocomplete.

According to PeckShield, crypto hacker activity in January dropped by 93% from $121,4 million to $8,8 million compared to the same period last year. In total, the damage from attacks on crypto projects in 2022 was $3,7 billion, the worst result in the entire history of observations.
