What’s new? The head of the Kraken crypto exchange, Jesse Powell, said that the clients from Russia will not be blocked without appropriate legal requirements. However, the head of the company is ready for the fact that such a demand may come soon from both the authorities of foreign states and the Russian government.
1/6 I understand the rationale for this request but, despite my deep respect for the Ukrainian people, @krakenfx cannot freeze the accounts of our Russian clients without a legal requirement to do so.Russians should be aware that such a requirement could be imminent. #NYKNYC https://t.co/bMRrJzgF8N— Jesse Powell (@jespow) February 28, 2022
The head of the exchange reminded:
“Cryptocurrencies are the embodiment of libertarian values, which strongly favor individualism and human rights.”
What preceded it? The CEX IO platform suspended the registration of new users from Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus, while BTC Alpha’s representatives reported blocking the accounts of Russian users. Also, the Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchange KUNA closed the Russian ruble deposits and withdrawals.
The cryptocurrency exchange Binance rejected the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance’s demands to block the accounts of Russian users.
