Mastercard and cryptocurrencies. In December 2022, Hi, a financial application, with the support of Polygon, launched a platform to customize Mastercard’s debit card. With it, holders can create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from their own images and use them to customize the face of a Web 3.0 card. Purchases with the card can be paid in cryptocurrency or fiat.
In October, Mastercard entered into a strategic partnership with Dubai-based cryptocurrency exchange BitOasis to launch a crypto payment card in the Middle East and North Africa. That same month, the payment giant highlighted five key areas to work with digital assets.
And last August, Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach announced a joint work with the Binance exchange to enable more than 90 million stores around the world to accept cryptocurrency as payment.
