What’s new? ConsenSys, the developer of the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet, shared details about the incident involving unauthorized access to customer support. According to the developers, between August 1, 2021, and February 10, 2023, third parties could obtain the personal data of users who contacted MetaMask’s support service. At the moment the incident is localized.
What else is known? The data leak was caused by a third-party provider that provided technical support services to ConsenSys customers. The developers point out that they usually ask for limited confidential data required to resolve issues, but the form for contacting the support contains a free text field, where users can enter any information they want, such as initials, phone numbers, mailing addresses, and other personal data.
