What’s new? One of Mexico's richest men, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, sent a message to his Twitter followers on Christmas Eve. In a two-minute holiday video, the businessman recommended giving up fiat money and buying cryptocurrency.
What did Pliego say? He gave advice for the coming year, let go of envy and believe in yourself, especially when striving for freedom and innovation, and then added:
“Steer clear of fiat money. Whether it is the dollar, the euro, or the yen – it is all the same. It is fake money made of paper lies. Central banks are producing more than ever. Invest in Bitcoin!”
What had happened before? Ricardo Salinas Pliego sought to make Mexico's second-largest retail bank, Banco Azteca, the first lender in the country to do business in BTC. However, in June 2021, Mexico's central bank stated that such cryptocurrencies are not considered legal tender and are banned from use in the country's financial system.
