What’s new? As of December 1, Microsoft imposed a ban on mining using its online services without the company’s written permission. Information about the new rules is contained in a summary of changes and updates on the website and was published on December 12. Representatives of the company told The Register that the measure is aimed at improving customer security, and reducing the risk of disruption or impairing of services.

What else is known? The company’s new licensing policy contains a ban on the use of online services “to mine cryptocurrency without Microsoft’s prior written approval.” Requests will be reviewed by the company for security risks.
Violation of these policies could lead to suspension of the services to the extent deemed necessary by the company. If Microsoft deems that a violation of the rules does not require an immediate suspension, the customer will be given an advance warning.
In November, Hetzner, a German cloud hosting company, blocked 20% of all Solana blockchain nodes. The company’s policy also bans cryptocurrencies on its servers.
In June, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates called crypto projects “shams based on the greater fool theory.” It argues that an asset can be resold regardless of its value, as there is always someone willing to buy it in the hope of reselling it later at a profit. In May, Gates explained his reluctance to buy cryptocurrencies by saying that they do not benefit society.
