What’s new? On February 15, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina, and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko met, Bloomberg reports. The parties still have not reached a consensus on the issue of cryptocurrency regulation.
What did the parties come to at the meeting? One of Bloomberg’s sources reported that the positions “did not get any closer to a deal and decided only to formalize their disagreements.” Another source noted that despite the president’s order to regulate cryptocurrencies, Nabiullina and Siluanov did not significantly advance on this issue.
As instructed by Dmitry Grigorenko, the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance have to prepare a corresponding bill by February 18. It was also previously reported that State Duma Deputy Andrei Lugovoy considers a ban on cryptocurrencies is pointless and calls on the authorities to regulate the industry as soon as possible.
