What’s new? Rare Bears, an NFT project, has been hacked by a phishing attack on its Discord channel. The developers reported this on Twitter, the attacker managed to steal and sell 179 NFTs worth 286 ETH ($800 000 at the exchange rate on March 18). Rare Bears has already restored access to Discord and assured users that the server is protected from new attacks.
What is known about the hack? The hacker gained access to the Rare Bears moderator’s Discord account and posted a phishing link there announcing the release of new tokens. He then banned other members of the channel and banned them from leaving chat messages. The users who clicked on the link lost all NFTs, which included tokens from the CloneX, Azuki, mfer, and LAND collections.
PrivacyHQ’s recent research found that half of NFT holders lost access to their assets, and 16% of them were hacked. It was also previously reported that the hackers hacked the Hundred Finance and Agave protocols and withdrew $11 million in cryptocurrencies from the projects.
