What’s new? The Bank of Russia plans to allow individuals and legal entities from other countries to open digital ruble wallets, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia Olga Skorobogatova said at the Finopolis forum. According to her, the Central Bank intends in the future to implement a service on its own platform, through which non-residents will be able to use digital rubles.
What happened before? In March, Skorobogatova called the digital ruble a new means of payment, adding that the regulator will limit the rate for the asset. In April, she allowed the possibility that in the next 5-7 years, cross-border settlements will be possible in national digital currencies (CBDCs), and the digital ruble platform will integrate similar assets of other states.
The State Duma postponed the adoption of a package of draft laws on the digital ruble, in connection with which the testing of the asset on real transactions was also postponed from April 1 to a later date.
