What’s new? Tesla, an electric car manufacturer, is testing the previously announced Dogecoin payment option. This was revealed by a software engineer who runs a Twitter account under the nickname Tree of Alpha. He analyzed Tesla's backend source code and said the company is investigating the feature.

What does the engineer say? The DOGE payment option is currently hidden for now. Tree of Alpha has also discovered that Tesla has added a “crypto_continue.html” page to its source code to handle crypto payments.
“Most of the code is already present in the latest Javascript files Tesla uses for processing payments.”
What events preceded it? In March 2021, Tesla began supporting bitcoin for car purchases. But in May it stopped accepting the cryptocurrency as payment because of concerns about the environmental impact.
“We are concerned about the rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for bitcoin mining and transactions validation,” the company said then.
