The upgrade is rolled out as part of the Tezos protocol preparations to implement interoperability with WebAssembly and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Ithaca 2 will also simplify the memepool validation scheme to increase throughput.
What is known about Tezos? It is a blockchain platform created to support and run smart contracts. The founders of the project are spouses Arthur and Kathleen Breitman. Tezos has its own XTZ token, whose owners can vote on proposals to upgrade the protocol.
