What’s new? The developers of the Tezos blockchain have activated its ninth protocol upgrade, Ithaca 2. The upgrade will replace the current consensus algorithm, known as Emmy, with Tenderbake, according to a press release. The new consensus algorithm will reduce block finding time, leading to faster transactions.
What is known about the upgrade? Ithaca 2 will reduce the requirements for validators by 25% from 8000 tez to 6000 tez, strengthening the decentralized nature of Tezos. The upgrade is rolled out as part of the Tezos protocol preparations to implement interoperability with WebAssembly and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Ithaca 2 will also simplify the memepool validation scheme to increase throughput.
What is known about Tezos? It is a blockchain platform created to support and run smart contracts. The founders of the project are spouses Arthur and Kathleen Breitman. Tezos has its own XTZ token, whose owners can vote on proposals to upgrade the protocol.
