What’s new? French game studio Ubisoft has joined the Cronos blockchain ecosystem as a validator. The initiative is part of the company’s efforts to explore blockchain technology as part of its own Strategic Innovation Lab. Ubisoft will become part of a pool of 27 other node operators on Cronos, increasing the stability and security of the network. Each node creates or validates new blocks on average every five to six seconds.
What else is known? The partnership is part of Cronos’ strategy to recruit open-source companies with strong technical expertise as developers and validators. Current blockchain participants include crypto companies Crypto.com, Blockdaemon, Dora Factory, and Allnodes.
As a validator, Ubisoft will participate in managing the blockchain and approving updates to the network. The Cronos ecosystem will benefit from the expertise of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab in providing feedback on technology upgrades to support gaming applications, the blockchain’s blog says.
The partnership builds on an existing relationship between the two companies: Ubisoft has previously participated in the Cronos Accelerator program as a startup mentor.
What is known about the companies? Cronos is the leading open-source Layer 1 (L1) blockchain network, compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and built with the software development kit (SDK) from the Cosmos blockchain. Cronos has an audience of over 1 million users. As of July 18, 11:10 UTC, the native token CRO is trading at $0,059694, down by 0,1% overnight (CoinGecko’s data). The asset ranks 37th in the cryptocurrency ranking with a capitalization of $1,57 billion.
The company also has a blockchain startup accelerator, Cronos Labs, specializing in decentralized finance (DeFi), blockchain games, and the development of the Cronos ecosystem.
Ubisoft’s global teams create and develop a diverse portfolio of games including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and more. Through Ubisoft Connect, players can utilize an ecosystem of services to enhance their gaming experience, earn rewards and connect with friends across platforms. In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the studio’s net revenue exceeded $1,9 billion.
Earlier, Ubisoft announced its first Web 3.0 game called Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, which will launch on the Oasys blockchain.
