What’s new? On April 1, the Cabinet of Ministers of Abkhazia announced an extension of the ban on mining cryptocurrencies until the end of the year. The resolution is published on the department’s official website. The republic has banned cryptocurrency mining and the import of goods that are intended for mining until December 31, 2022.

What had happened before? In December 2020, Abkhazia announced a ban on mining due to frequent power grid failures and power shortages.

In October 2021, Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania reported the construction of an IT park dedicated to mining digital assets. The head of state announced that a new substation in Gyachripsh will be used to power the technopark park.
