What’s new? According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, Disney has been granted a patent to create personalized interactive entertainment for the theme park’s visitors. The Metaverse technology will be implemented in augmented reality (AR) attractions.
How will the development work? The Metaverse is assumed to exist solely in the Internet space, but Disney technology is supposed to bring it into the physical world. The program will track the park visitors using their mobile phones and project the personalized 3D effects onto the nearby rooms, walls, and objects in the park.
How do the company’s representatives comment on the technology? CEO Bob Chapek said that the firm is preparing to “merge physical and digital assets into a metaverse.” Disney Resorts Chief Strategy Officer Tilak Mandadi echoed this idea in his LinkedIn article, adding:
“These experiences are perennial, and the guest engagement is inside and outside the parks. They are unique to you, but are also social and connected. They are constantly changing so there is always something new to discover.”
