What’s new? A fake wallet of the Cardano network, called Nami, was found on the AppStore. According to CryptoPotato, if a user entered their seed phrase, this data was sent to the app developers, and they stole the cryptocurrency from the original wallet. In this, the fake app is still available for download on the store.
What else is known about the situation? Back at the beginning of this year, representatives of Nami published a post on Twitter in which they stated that they had neither a Telegram channel nor a web wallet. They also noted that the only real wallet is presented only as an extension for the Google Chrome browser.
Beware of scams❗️Nami does not have a telegram channel nor do we have a web wallet. We do ONLY have a chrome extension. Also all support messages here on twitter are scams and fakes. @NamiWallet is the only official account.— Nami (@NamiWallet) January 24, 2022
In March, ESET uncovered a fraudulent scheme to spread malicious apps disguised as well-known cryptocurrency wallets. The company also reported 13 fake apps posing as the Jaxx Liberty wallet on the Google Play Store.
In October, BleepingComputer experts warned of a fake security update for Phantom cryptocurrency wallets on the Solana blockchain. Hackers under the guise of a wallet update send out NFTs containing malware.
