What’s new? On the official portal of the City of Irkutsk, the authorities have announced a 40% increase in the load on the power grid. Deputy Mayor of Irkutsk Dmitry Ruzhnikov urges city residents to “use electricity rationally” in the run-up to the New Year holidays.

How does the city administration comment on the situation? Ruzhnikov said that the power outage in the city is connected with the replacement of fuses, to ensure the stable operation of the overloaded grid. As the administration notes, such load and network outages are related to the miners’ activities. The increased activity of the miners is likely due to the established frosts, which contribute to the better cooling of the mining farms.

How is the miners’ activity regulated in Irkutsk? Earlier, the region's governor, Igor Kobzev, proposed to equate cryptocurrency mining with entrepreneurial activities. The electricity tariffs have also been increased for miners.
